Training needs Assessment of the health personnel working in primary care units, Ministry of Public Health

Abstract

           The objectives of this study are to study normal needs and express needs for development in standard knowledge and standard skills and to study the differences of those aspects in each region. Sample group is health personnel working in primary care units from all parts of Ministry of Public Health, total number is 2,486. Cluster and simple random sampling were used. Research tool are questionnaires. The data analysis included: percentages, means, standard deviations, one- way Anova and content analysis.

          Results of study found that all health personnel needed to improve standard knowledge and standard skill in all aspects, including administration, academics, service and the others.

          For express needs, it is found that first prioritize needs of heads of primary care units, Public Health Technical officers, health workers and dental health workers are as follows: research, innovation and continuous quality improvement. For nurses, first prioritize needs were community health problem assessment, analysis and solving. For skill aspects, heads of primary care units needed to improve skills of cooperation within organization and inter-organizations, including senior officers and local government organizations and skill on jobs assignments.

          For public health technical officers and health workers, their first express needs were setting up and innovation development and continuous quality improvement (CQI). Nurses needed skill of community health problem assessment, analysis and solving. And dental nurses needed skills of setting up and develop innovation and continuous quality improvement. The differences between each regions, it was found that means score of knowledge and skills needed to be improved, in all aspects of heads of primary health care units were statistically significant different at P value <0.001. Suggestions, all colleges under Praboromarajchanok Institute should improve curriculum in order to produce and develop personnel which full of standard knowledge and skills for working in primary health care units.
