Factors related to aseptic processing behaviors in the dental clinic of dental public health program, Sirindhorn College of Public Health Khon Kaen Province

Abstract

            This descriptive research was aimed to study on two objectives, which included 1)aseptic processing behaviors in the dental clinic 2) Relationships amongst aseptic processing behaviors knowledge, the perceived susceptibility of infection,  the perceived severity of infection, the perceived benefit of aseptic processing behavior, the perceived barrier in aseptic processing behavior and the motivation in aseptic processing behaviors in the dental clinic of dental public health program, Sirindhorn College of Public Health KhonKaen Province. Data were collected by the questionnaires and were analyzed as percentages, means and standard deviations. Spearman’s rank correlation coefficients were tested.

            The results of this study showed that the students had high level of aseptic processing behaviors in overview. The scores were high on dental injection safety behaviors, personal barrier protection behaviors and infectious dental waste management behaviors respectively. The findings of statistics using Spearman's rho (rs) showed the statistically significant positive correlations between the aseptic processing behaviors in the dental clinic and other factors, including the perceived risk of the disease (r= 0.363; p-value =0.013), the perceived susceptibility of infection (r= 0.480 ; p-value =0.001), the perceived benefit of aseptic processing behaviors (r= 0.431 ; p-value =0.003) and the perceived barrier in aseptic processing behaviors (r= 0.542 ; p-value <0.001). Knowledge and health motivation were not related to aseptic processing behaviors in the dental clinic (p-value > 0.05).
