Efficacy of ultraviolet treatment in psoriasis patients at Trang Regional Center of Tropical Dermatology during 2006-2009

Background: Phototherapy, PUVA and narrow-band UVB are recognized forms of first line therapy for extensive and severe plaque psoriasis. Several studies comparing the relative efficacy of the two forms of ultraviolet treatment have produced conflicting results. This study presents the results of retrospective study of efficacy of ultraviolet treatment in psoriasis patient at Trang Regional Center of Tropical Dermatology during 2006-2009.
Method: This study is a retrospective study to evaluate the efficacy of PUVA, Re-PUVA and narrow-band UVB therapy in the treatment of psoriasis.
Results: This study reviewed 87 patients with psoriasis, 32 received PUVA, 7 received Re-PUVA and 48 received NB-UVB. 40.63% in PUVA group, 71.43% in Re-PUVA group and 35.42% in NB-UVB group were improved after treatment.
