Assessment of sunscreen knowledge of sunscreen users in Bangkok

Abstract

Background: Sunscreen helps protect skin against harmful effects of sunlight. But users need a well of knowledge about it.

Objectives: To assess sunscreen knowledge of sunscreen users in Bangkok.

Materials and Methods: Data were collected from sample of sunscreen users by self administrated questionnaire about sunscreen knowledge. Descriptive frequencies, t-tests and one-way analysis of variance were used to characterize the responses.

Results: 85.67% of samples knew the benefit of sunscreen but only 46% knew the amount required to achieve the SPF claimed. 68.67% understand the reapplication recommendation and 63.33% knew the meaning of SPF and PA.

Conclusions: This study showed that sunscreen users lack of adequate knowledge about sunscreen and they should be informed about recommendation to use sunscreen efficiently.
