Abstract

Myopia often begins in school-aged children and can lead to various underlying medical conditions. Slowing the progression of myopia in children can improve their quality of life. This can be achieved through lifestyle modifications, the use of contact lenses, and medication. A medication proven effective in delaying myopia in children is low-concentration atropine eye drops. However, these may not be readily available in the concentrations prescribed by the physician at the hospital. Pharmacists can prepare low-concentration atropine eye drops by diluting 1% atropine eye drops, preparing them from injectable atropine, or preparing them from atropine powder. Preparation must be under sterile conditions. The medication should be stored in the refrigerator.
