Proportion of herbal therapy in type 2 diabetes at primary care unit of srisongkram hospital

Abstract

This study was descriptive research. Aims to study the proportion of herbal use data, the relationship between herbal use of patients with type 2 diabetes in the service area of ​​the community health center, Sri Songkhram Subdistrict, Nakhon Phanom Province. By using a questionnaire, the population of patients with type 2 diabetes who passed the inclusion and exclusion criteria, totaling 75 people. Data were analyzed using statistics of frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, single variable analysis, Chi-Square Test, setting the significance level at 0.05.

The results of the study found that the sample group used herbs to treat diabetes at 42.7 percent, the source was a relative or acquaintance who recommended at 50 percent, the herb used was bitter melon at 37.5 percent, had experienced side effects from using at 4.2 percent, were not sure of the exact dosage of herbs at 46.8 percent, were not sure that using herbs would help at 46.8 percent, and were not sure if using herbs would help others at 62.5 percent. The reason for not using was because using modern medicine was already good at 34.8 percent. No factors in the basic data were found to be related to using or not using herbs to treat diabetes. The accumulated blood sugar levels were not significantly different. Public health personnel should continue to provide correct knowledge and understanding about the use of herbs to diabetic patients.
