บทคัดย่อ

Objective : To evaluate the HIV transmission rate from mother to child who took antiretroviral drug prophylaxis regimen followed the Prevention of Mother To Child Transmission (PMTCT) policy for Thailand (2004) which adding Nevirapine (NVP) to mother at delivery and children at birth and evaluate risk factor of maternal to child infection.

Material and methods : A retrospective study from PMTCT project record in Perinatal HIV Infection Monitoring System (PHIMS) in addition, follow-up form about the children born to HIV infected mother in Som- detphraphuttalertla Hospital from October, 2004 to September, 2007. The data were collected and statistically classified and compared for the purpose of evaluation the risk factor of maternal to child transmission.

Results : 53 HIV positive mothers and their infants were evaluated according to PMTCT program until HIV infected diagnostic work up was completely done. 2 of 53 infants were HIV infected. The maternal to child transmission rate was 3.8%. There was no statistically significant differences between HIV infected and non infected infant in all factors.

Conclusion : With the PMTCT(2004) program implementation in Somdetphraphutthalertla Hospital, mother to child transmission rate was 3.8%. Risk factor of maternal to child infection were not significant in ANC, duration of AZT intake, mode of delivery, gestational age, sex and birth weight.
