โรคหนังเกล็ดปลา (ichthyosis) เป็นโรคที่มีการถ่ายทอดทางพันธุกรรม โดยพบความผิดปกติในการสร้างเคราติน ซึ่งมีลักษณะอาการผิวแห้งเป็นสะเก็ดหรือมีการหนาของผิวหนังตามร่างกาย โรคหนังเกล็ดปลาชนิด epidermolytic ichthyosis เป็นโรคผิวหนังในกลุ่มนี้ซึ่งเป็นชนิดที่พบได้น้อย โดยมักเริ่มมีอาการตั้งแต่แรกเกิด การเจริญของฟันปกติ แต่มักจะเกิดฟันผุได้ง่ายขึ้น อย่างไรก็ตามยังมีการศึกษาน้อยเกี่ยวกับลักษณะอาการที่แสดงในช่องปากและฟันในกลุ่มผู้ป่วยโรคนี้ บทความนี้เป็นรายงานผู้ป่วยเด็กหญิงอายุ 2 ปี 10 เดือน ที่เป็นโรคนี้ซึ่งมีฟันผุในเด็กเล็ก และการจัดการทางทันตกรรม
