Abstract

This research aims to compare fine needle capillary (FNC) versus fine needle aspiration (FNA) technique, in cytological diagnosis of various organ lumps e.g. breast and thyroid. The technique of FNC, will give the feeling arrives at the character of a piece while, stab better then can enforce and fix the depth, the direction in stabbing well more, and a little contaminated blood than FNA. But it still have arguments arrives at the adequateness of the tissue that FNC can get enough compare with FNA, which is standard technique.

Materials and method: Prospective randomized comparative study was conducted on 115 patients attending at Phaholpolpayuhasena Hospital from 1 March to 30 May 2013. The study tools used were medical data records, the statistics that used in data analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation (S.D.), t-test and chi-square.

Result: FNC, in adequacy of tissue showed, no result of unsatisfactory (0/58) but FNA had 7% unsatisfactory (4/57) but there was no statistic signification in both groups. In cases of masses below 1 cm in size FNC, in adequacy of tissue, showed again no result of unsatisfactory (0/18) but FNA had 40% unsatisfactory (4/10) and have statistic signification. Those was no difference in diagnosis result in both techniques.

Conclusion: the result indicated that FNC was more likely to be diagnostically superior than FNA in case of mass size below 1 cm but no difference in cases of mass more than 1 cm, FNC was suggested to used in small lesion to improved adequacy.
