Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment for Older Adults in Huayplu Community, Nakhon Pathom Province

Abstract

Objective: This study was performed to compare the findings of Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) of older adults who were living in Huayplu community, Nakhon Chai Si District, Nakhon Pathom Province in three domains, including biological, psychological and social aspects.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed in 361 older adults aged 50 years and older, living in Huayplu community in January to March, 2016. All participants were included by multi-stage sampling covered all regions of Huayplu community. Chi-square test was used for analysis the difference of associated factors between the older adults aged between 50 and 59 years and the older adults aged 60 years or older and, moreover, the difference between male and female.

Results: All participants were 361 older adults, most of them were female (58.2%), living together or married (67.5%), under universal coverage (84.3%), Thai race (96.3%), total family income less than 10,000 baht (32.7%) and educated in level of primary school (71.9%).

The results presented that for biological aspect; stroke was found in males more than females (66.7% and 33.3%), cataract was found in the older adults aged 60 years and older more than the older adults aged between 50 and 59 years (73.3% and 26.7%). The moderate–intensity activity and exercise continuous 10 minutes in one week was associated with the age interval of the older adults (between 50-59 years group and 60 years and older group) at the significant level of .05. For psychological aspect, the older adult aged 60 years and older reported that their quality of life in the moderate to severe level more than the older adults aged between 50 and 59 years at the significant level of .05. Regarding to social aspect, the older adults aged 60 years and older reported that they felt loneliness higher than the older adults aged between 50 and 59 years (78.7% and 21.3%) at the significant level of .005. Finally, the female older adults had the problems about no caregiver carrying them to see the doctors when they could not go by themselves which was higher than the male older adults (54% and 46%) at the significant level of .05.
