Factors Affecting Blood Pressure Control in Patients with Hypertension Health Promoting Hospital Tambon Wang Nam Khieo, Kamphaeng Saen District, Nakhon Pathom Province

Abstract

Study objectives: To study the factors that affect blood pressure control among patients with hypertension.

Setting: Primary care unit at Health Promoting Hospital Tambon Wang Nam Khieo, Kamphaeng Saen district Nakhon Pathom Province.

Design: Cross-sectional analysis to determine the factors that affect blood pressure control among patients with hypertension included 100 participants. Demographic data, assessment of risk factors for high blood pressure data, and access to health services data were collected by questionnaire. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics included percentage, mean, standard deviation and also Chi-square test to determine the relationship between different factors.

The results: Factors affected the blood pressure control among patients receiving services at the Kamphaengsaen Hospital and Health Promoting Hospital, Tambon Wang Nam Khieo statistical significantly (p-value <.05) of five factors, including the adherence to monitoring, the use of drugs other than modern medicine, stress factors, the inconvenience of travel, and health education by doctors and public health officials. Patients at Kamphaengsaen Hospital had uncontrollable blood pressure, greater than the patients at Health Promoting Hospital Tambon Wang Nam Khieo, 66 and 48 percent respectively.

Conclusion: the factors affecting blood pressure control in patients with hypertension are various. Depending on several factors, including personal factors, lifestyle and the environmental factors. Nearest health service and convenience to access is one way to help patients with hypertension to get quick service and reduce congestion in the hospital. This will result in patients’ ongoing follow-up and increased adherence to medical treatments and reduce risk for the occurrence of major complications as well.
