Abstract

A comparative study between subtotal/ total colectomy with anastomosis and Hartmannís operation in 55 cases of acute obstructed left-sided colon cancer at Makarak Hospital during January 2000 - June 2009 was conducted. After 1-6 years of follow up it was found that subtotal/ total colectomy had low morbidity rate, shorter hospital stay, lower cost and better quality of life in spite of more stool frequency that would be

better in 6-12 months. The results indicate that subtotal/ total colectomy with anastomosis is suitable treatment for acute obstructed left-sided colon cancer.
