The Result of Asthma Treatment pre and post Setting up an Easy Asthma Clinic In Sampran Hospital Nakhon Pathom Province

Abstract

Objective: To study and compared pre and post setting up an Easy Asthma Clinic in Sampran Hospital.

Design and methods: Retrospective descriptive study in asthma patients aged more than 15 years old and had continuous treatment at least 6 months in Easy Asthma Clinic. Sampran Hospital since November, 1, 2010-October, 31, 2012.

Results: Of the 98 patients, 34.69% were male, 65.31 % were female and the mean ages 57.86 years old. The results showed that the emergency rate of asthmatic attack reduced from 3.17 visits/person/year in pre EAC to 0.86 and 0.56 visit/person/year in first and second year post EAC. Hospitalization rate reduced from 0.86 visit/person/year pre EAC to 0.39 and 0.13 visit/person/year in first and second year post EAC. Inhaled corticosteroid used rate increased from 46.84% in pre EAC to 86.47% and 86.37% in first and second year post EAC. Proportion of patients who had achieved control stage increased from 3.06% in pre EAC to 10.24% and 34.69% in first and second year post EAC. Pulmonary function tested by peak flow meter (PEFR) more than 80% predicted increased from 21.43% in pre EAC to 41.84% and 60.20% in first and second year post EAC. The rate of correct steroid used, not assessed in pre EAC, was 88.02% and 94.49% in first and second year post EAC. Rate of complication Inhaled steroid used was from 10.20% in pre EAC to 15.36% and 8.44% in first and second year post EAC.

Conclusions: Setting up of Easy Asthma Clinic in Sampran Hospital can reduce the emergency room visiting with asthmatic attack and hospitalization. Level of asthma control was better. Pulmonary function improved. Increased evaluation of the use of inhaled steroids and increased the proper use of inhaled steroids.
