Comparison of Efficacy Between Modified Electric Vacuum Aspiration with Flexible Karman Cannulae and Sharp Curettage for the Treatment of Incomplete Abortion

Abstract

Comparison of efficacy between modified electrical vacuum aspiration with Karman cannulae10 and sharp curettage was done. Ninety-four patients with incomplete abortion and gestational age up to 12 weeks in Dumnernsaduak hospital, Ratchaburi between 2005-2009 were enrolled. There were no significant differences of age, gravid and gestational age between two groups.

Significant differences in duration of procedure and estimated blood loss were found lesser in modified electrical vacuum aspiration with Karman cannulae group than sharp curettage group mean values were 6.06 vs 7.43 minutes (p = 0.000) and 30.43 vs 37.23 ml (p = 0.000), respectively.

There were some minor complications such as fever, abdominal pain, cervical abrasion and vagal reaction. No uterine perforation and hematometra were found in both procedures.
