Second Trimester Pregnancy Interruption with Misoprostol in Makarak Hospital

Abstract

A restrospective descriptive study was performed to study second trimester pregnancy interruption with misoprostol in Makarak hospital. Twenty three indicated cases were recruited during 1 October 2006 to 30 September 2009. Sixteen cases received sublingual misoprostol 200 microgram 1 hour before intravaginal misoprostol 200 microgram every 8 hours. Six cases received 200 microgram intravaginal misoprostol every 8 hours and one case received 200 microgram sublingual misoprostol. Twenty one cases (91.7%) aborted within 24 hours. The adverse outcome was fever (34.78%). Further studies for improving effectiveness and safety with a large sample size should be considered.
