The Health Utility of Stroke Patients at Ratchaburi Hospital

Abstract

Objective : To determine the health utility of stroke patients at Ratchaburi hospital by using the European Quality of Life-5 Dimensions (EQ-5D) questionnaire.
Method : A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in stroke patients at Ratchaburi hospital. Two hundred eighty four (284) outpatients were included from August to October 2009. The EQ-5D and Barthel index questionnaires were used to evaluate the patients.

Result : The mean of health utility measured by EQ-5D was 0.55 ± 0.29. Average time used to answer the questionnaire was 0.94 ± 0.44 minutes. The correlation coefficient between the relative mean of EQ-5D and Barthel index score was exhibited to be moderately good. (r2 = 0.72).

Conclusions : Stroke patients in Ratchaburi hospital had moderate level of health utility.
