Abstract

Objective: The objectives of this study were to study on the prevalence and risk factor of antiretroviral treatment failure.

Methods: This was a descriptive study. The samples were HIV/AIDS patients who were > 15 years old and treated with antiretroviral drugs at least 6 months.

Results: The prevalence of antiretroviral treatment failure was 25.4% This study identified risk factors : patients with transmission from mother to child (OR = 38.328 95% CI 4.938-297.504: p < 0.001), adherence < 95% (OR = 9.476 CI 5.798-15.487: p < 0.001), D4T30 + 3TC + EFV regimen (OR = 8.462 95% CI 5.166-13.860: p < 0.001), had opportunistic infection (OR = 6.686 95% CI 3.731-11.983: p < 0.001), CD4 while diagnosis of treatment failure < 200 cell/ml (OR = 1.939 95% CI 1.215-3.096: p < 0.05), base line CD4 < 50 cell/ml (OR = 1.661 95% CI 1.063-2.594: p < 0.05) and < 100 cell/ml (OR = 1.520 95% CI 1.012-2.284: p < 0.05), treat with antiretroviral for < 36 months (OR = 1.589 95% CI 1.026-2.463: p < 0.05), had sexual transmitted disease (OR = 0.505 95% CI 0.289-0.882: p < 0.05).

Conclusion: Monitor all patients who had risk factors for prevention antiretroviral treatment failure and drugs resistance.
