Factors Relating to the Success of Control and Prevention of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever of Tambon - Level Public Health Officer in Nakhonpathom Province

Abstract

This was an analytic research aimed to study the relation of resource and process management to the success of prevention and control of hemorrhagic fever in Tambon level of Nakhonpathom province. Tool used in the study was a questionnaire about general information, resources management, management process and the success of dengue prevention and control. Samples were 120 Tambon - level public health officers who was interviewed via the questionaire during 10^th February - 31^th March 2551. The data were analyzed by SPSS program and the statistics used were mean, standard deviation, percent and Chi square test.
The results showed that performance of prevention and control of dengue hemorrhagic fever was not successful in 54.2%. It was found that knowledge about dengue in Tambon-level was lower than 60%, including biology of Aedes aegypti (59.2%) and elimination of Aedes aegyptiís larvae by using chemical sand (50.0%), optimal amount of chemical sand in comsuming water (54.2%), appropriate method to elimination of mosquitoes’ larvae (55.0%), Guidelines in survey abundance. of mosquitoes’ larvae. (55.3%) and evaluation of risk of outbreaks of dengue hemorrhagic fever (49.2%). Most of health officers had degree or higher educational level in group which had successful prevention and control of dengue hemorrhagic fever (87.3%) whereas 36.9% of the officers had diploma educational level in failed group (p = 0.009) Resource managements of successful and failed groups were not different (p > 0.05). There were significant difference in the item of organization. The successful group had good level of organization in 38.2% instead of 26.2% of the failed group (p = 0.034).
Conclusion : Keys for success of prevention and control dengue include were encouraging health personnel to develop education and knowledge about dengue prevention and control and also improvement of organization of Tambon - level health unit by development of policy and academic workshops together continuously.
