Factors Associated with Depression and Attempted Suicide of Patients in Wat Phleng District

Abstract

     This was a descriptive retrospective study aimed to determine causes of depression and attempted suicide between October 2008-September 2011. Sample was 101 depression and attempted suicide patients in Watphleng hospital. The instrument used in this study was 506DS form. Data analysis used percentage, mean, standard deviation and tested analysis by chi-square. The results of the study showed that the most patients were female. Most of the age ranged over 10-20 years (29.7%) with 14 years of minimum age and 88 years of maximum age. Most occupation was self-employed (42.6%). Most of themselves harm used drug overdose. Factors or causes of depression and attempted suicide were disappointed love (32.7%) and health problems of chronic illness (23.7%). The most successful suicide were male. Most of suicide used herbicide (50%). Sex, age and occupation related with causes of depression and attempted suicide (p < 0.05). Screening of depression should be made in every age groups for prevention suicide.
