Abstract

The functional impression technique can reduce mobility of dentures which in turn, reduces trauma to the primary abutment and supporting tissues. At present, the most popular method of functional impression is the alter cast method which can accurately duplicate the supporting tissues and the clinical procedure is not complicated but this method may cause laboratory error than other methods. This reviewed article gathered information from international journals and textbooks to demonstrate the principle of functional impressions and its material because each method varies in difficulties and advantages. Dentists should be familiar with these methods and be able to apply proper method to particular patient.
