The Effectiveness of Participatory Learning Program for Foot - care Behavior of Diabetic Patients in Suanphung Hospital, Ratchaburi

Abstract

     This quasi-experimental research, was aimed to study the effects of participatory learning programs to promote behavioral health care on their own feet. Also, integrated with the theory of learning is a participatory framework. The sample was recruited 64 diabetic patients. Divided them into experimental group and a control group, each group had 32 patients. Each in experimental group received the program of 3 activities. The contents consisted of the risks of serious substantive issues affecting the incidence of foot ulcers and in terms of cleaning the feet and their skin and nail care, also including for feet exercise and circulation stimulation, selection of footwear, checking for any abnormality of the feet, and meeting the doctor to get feet examination. Collecting data before and after trial in the assessment form for patients to completed the knowledge, attitudes and behavior of health care on their own feet, and all that data were analyzed by t-test.

     The results showed that the experimental group had more average scores of the knowledge, attitudes and behavior of health care on their own feet than before the treatment and control group, statistical significantly (p-value < 0.01).

     The results of this study conclude that participatory learning program promotes behavioral health care on their own feet in diabetic patients. This resulted in diabetic patients get more knowledge, attitudes and practices better. So this program could be used for the diabetic patients to facilitate healthy foot care behavior themselves.
