The Efficacy of Macadamia Charcoal Gauzes on Dressing of Otolaryngology Cancer Wounds

Abstract

Objective: To study efficacy of the regular gauze compare with the macadamia charcoal coated gauze on dressing of otolaryngology cancer wounds.

Materials and method: Using the macadamia charcoal coated gauzes to dress 72 cancer wounds of patients in otolaryngology ward compared with the regular gauzes and then the questionnaires were done by 42 nursing persons during 1 April 2009 - 31 December 2009.

Results: The reduction of wounds odor and discharge were 85.7% and 76.2%, respectively. The improvements of wounds cleanliness were 76.2% when using the macadamia charcoal coated gauzes instead of the regular gauzes.
