Cost effective of Pediatric One Day Surgery in Indirect Inguinal Hernia and Hydrocele

Abstract

Background : The aim of this study was to evaluate cost effectiveness of pediatric one day surgery in Indirect Inguinal hernia and hydrocele.

Methods : Data on all pediatric patients scheduled to have herniotomy and hydrocelectomy during a 1-year period from October 2009 to September 2010 were collected retrospectively.

Results : A total of 61 operations of herniotomy and hydrocelectomy were performed during study period. Average total cost were 8,213 bath in admitted cases and 6,475 bath in one day surgery cases, no major complication was noted in one day surgery cases.

Conclusions : Pediatric one day surgery is a cost-effective program that benefits the child and the family.
