Abstract

Loss in occlusal vertical dimension may predispose the patient to abnormal function, improper mastication and esthetic problems. Tooth attrition have been the major cause of overclosure. This report describe the epidemiology and etiology of the occlusal wear, the methods of evaluation and diagnosis of an existing vertical dimension, overclosure patient categories, and the clinical approach for establishing an appropriate vertical dimension of occlusion.
