The Result of Formal Nursing Care Services Toward Self Care Ability of Non Insulin Dependent Diabetic Mellitus Patients

Abstract

     This study had its objective for determining an ability in self-care of non-insulin dependent diabetic mellitus patients resulting from formal nursing care services with Quasi-experimental method. It was carried out at Latya Community Medical Center, Mueang district of Kanchanaburi Province, during May 2006 to September 2006. Samples were thirty non-insulin dependent diabetic mellitus patients seeking care at Latya Community Medical Center Obtained by purposing sampling method. Instrument used for collecting data was a Questionnaire constructed by the researchers. Data analysis was made by computer statistical program.

     The study results indicated that self-care ability such as essential knowledge, attitude, practices and body mass index of the samples after the intervention were significantly better than those prior to the intervention (P<.05). It was also show that blood sugar levels prior to formal nursing care services were between 96.3 mg% To 216.6 mg% with the average of 157.34 mg%. Following the treatment with formal nursing care sewices program, blood sugar levels were between 80 mg% to 206 mg% with the average of, 41.03 mg%. When test of statistical significance was improved, it was found that the average blood sugar level had significantly decreased (P<.05).
