Abnormal Pap smear in Nakhonpathom Hospital

Abstract

       Cervical cancer is the second most common cause of cancer in women worldwide and the most common cancer found in Thai women. The Papanicolaou (Pap) smear has been one of the most successful strategies developed for the prevention of cancer. Cytological report from 1 October 2002 to 30 September 2005 were reviewed and classified with the context of The Bethesda System. Abnormal cervical cytology in 32,682 persons was 487 persons (1.49%), which can be classified into ASCUS 55 persons (0.17%), AGUS 67 persons (0.21%), LSIL 197 persons (0.60%), HSIL 111 person (0.34%), CARCINOMA 57 persons (0.17%). There was correlation between cytological report and histological reported.
