Abstract

       Objective : To develop a self-assessment tool on quality of family planning and reproductive health services and to support government health facilities to assess quality of services and formulate action plan.

       Study design : Action research.

       Materials and method : This study was implemented in Regional/General hospitals, community hospitals, and sub-district health centers located in 8 provinces of all regions. Technique of group participation was employed to development of self-assessment tool and action plan formulation. Descriptive statistics and One-way Anova were applied for data analysis.

       Result : The self-assessment tool covering 7 components of client right and 3 components of health provider’s needs was developed. The result indicated a good level of service quality in those 3 levels of health facilities with no significant difference of quality score among them. However, a number of quality improvement (QI) issues were found. In responding to the needs to QI, those health facilities developed action plan to achieve a betterment of service quality. In addition, group participation process could enhance enthusiasm, cooperation, and responsibilities among health providers to improve quality of service.

       conclusion : Concerned organizations should promote the self-assessment tool and advocate government health facilities to improve quality of family planning and reproductive health services.
