Effect of Frequency of Antenatal Care Visits on Obstetric Outcome

Abstract

Study of pregnant women who gave birth at Nakhonpathom hospital, from January 1st, 2002 to December 31 st, 2006. There were 743 pregnant women with no antenatal care, 85 pregnant women with 4 visits and 3,237 pregnant women with 8 visits. The pregnant women with 8 visits have higher age, gesta-tional age, hematocrit and infant’s weight than pregnant women with no antenatal care significantly. But tend to have lower gravida, risk score, pregnant women with HIV infection, infant with low birth weight, infant with lower or equal to 7 in Apgar score at 1 and 5 min and death fetus in utero than pregnant women with no antenatal care significantly. The pregnant women with 4 visits have higher gestational age, hematocrit and infant's weight than pregnant women with no antenatal care significantly. But tend to have lower gravida, risk score and infant with low birth weight than pregnant women with no antenatal care significantly.
