Treatment of Amphetamine Abusers in Community, with Community Participation at Tambon Nakhonpathom, Amphur Muang Nakhonpathom Province

Abstract

Objective : To study about the treatment ot amphetamine abusers in community, with community participation.

Methods: The samples were amphetamine abusers who had volunteered to have the treatment at Tambon Nakhonpathom Amphur Muang Nakhonpathcm province during July 2007 to January 2008. All amphetamine abusers, their families including other people in community were interviewed and collected date.

Results : There were 25 amphetamine abusers ; 23 males and 2 females. Most of the abusers were 20-29 years old, finished primary education, single, unemployed and income below 4,000 bahts per month.

The causes for using amphetamine were wanting to try and persuaded by friends. And most of them use amphetamine more than five years. The status of their father-mother relationships were separated, divorced and one or another was dead. The psychiatric symptoms found were anxiety and depression (32%) and psychotic symptoms (36%)

There were 16 users that can have abstinence, 14 males and 2 females. The successful factors were self-confidence, familial support and social support from the community.
