The Effectiveness of Health Education Program on self-care Beheaviors of the Hypertensive Elderly in the Community of Municipality

Abstract

A study of the effectiveness of health education program aimed at changing the self-care behaviors of the hypertensive elderly in the community of municipal area Nakhonpathom province, a quasi-experimental research. The purpose of this research is to study the effectiveness of health education program aimed at changing the self-care behaviors of the hypertensive elderly in Nakhonpathom province. The population were the elderly of aged 60 years. Data were obtained by formal interviews with a sample of 74 elderly people partici-pating in the program.

The results are indicated as follows :

After the experiment, for the experimental groups, their knowledge about hypertensive are good. Their perception of risk for hypertensive and the perception of severity of hypertension are at high level. In addition, their perception of protection benefit for hypertension is at high level. The self-care behaviors of them are at good level higher than before the experiment and higher than the control groups before the experiment.
