Comparison of Orogastric Tube Feeding Strapped Procedures in Premature infant

Abstract

This study is a quasi-experiment. The aim was to compared the orogastric tube feeding strapped procedures in premature infant. The purposive sample consisted of 25 premature infants who have orogastric tube feeding during admitted at pediatric ward 2, Nakhonpathom hospital. The subjects were assigned for two procedures of orogastric tube feeding strapping. 1) Original procedure. 2) U-shaped (double-lock procedure).

The results of the study revealed that duration of U-shaped (double-lock procedure) have longer than original procedure, were statistically difference (p < .001). Frequency of inadvertent feeding tube dislodgements in original procedure were more than U-shape (double-lock procedure). This study provided the importance of nursing care for prevention of various complications of orogastric tube dislodgement and strapped procedure.
