Abstract

A descriptive retrospective study of falciparum malarial infection was conducted in Paholpolpayuhasaena Hospital from October 2002 to September 2004, to determine incidence rate, complication and mortality rate. There were 224 patients with male to female ratio of 1.8 : 1.22% among them were foreigners. The significant complications were cerebral malaria (18%) and acute renal failure (18%). The mortality rate was 6.7% .Most of the patients died within 48 hours after admission dueto disease severity.  39% of patients with acute renal failure needed dialysis. The study shows acute intermittent hemodialysis was better than acute peritoneal dialysis. The mortality rate in these groups was 24%.
