Anesthetic Related Complications of Patients Undergoing Cesarean Section with Spinal Anesthesia in Krathumbaen Hospital

Abstract

Regional anesthesia is commonly used for panurients because of many benefits. lf there were no risks, it should be considered for patient’s safety. The objective of this study was to evaluate the anesthetic related complications of patients undergoing cesarean section with regional anesthesia. A retrospective study was performed in 391 parturients at Krathumbean Hospital from October 2006 to September 2007. All of the patients received spinal anesthesia with spinal morphine. The most common intraoperative complications were hypotension (63.4%) and nausea and vomiting (42.5%). The complications in recovery room were pruritus (25.3%) and shivering (23.5%). Postoperative complications were pruritus (62.9%) and nausea and vomiting (14.8%). No patients in this study had fatal adverse effect such as cardiac arrest. We concluded that the complications of regional anesthesia were still common but could be detected and prompted treatment the complications.
