An Old Man with Tetanus : A Case Report

Abstract

          A 69 year-old man presented with Iockjaw and dysphagia. He developed generalized muscle spasms and dyspnea on the second day of admission. A mechanical ventilation was required. The patient was admitted in ICU and developed hospital acquired pneumonia. The patient received symptomatic and supportive treatment. Other complication was sympathetic hyperactivity. He recovered and was discharged after 30 days of the admission. Tetanus was diagnosed in this case. This report and literature review about tetanus would be beneficial to the physician who have to treat tetanus patients.
