Abstract

Objective : To diagnose, evaluate degree of severity of obstructive sleep apnea in patients who have snoring and apnea during sleeping time of Samutsakorn Hospital, based on the study of many factors, i.e., age, gender, body weight, height and body mass index affecting to snoring and obstructive sleep apnea.

Method : Having sleep study (polysomnography) to 140 patients (male 91 persons, female 49 persons), less than 15 years 78 persons (55.51%) who have visited at OPD ENT by snoring and obstructive sleep apnea symptoms during 1st  August 2005 to 30th  July 2007.

Results :  66 patients (45 males, 21 female) were diagnosed to be obstructive sleep apnea by polysomnogram (RDl > 4). Age, age group, weight, body mass index were significantly correlated with RDI, p-valve < 0.05

Conclusion : Polysomnography was investigation test for diagnosis and evaluation the degree of severity of obstructive sleep apnea. Age, weight, and body mass index have effect to RDI in adult patients.
