Abstract

          Laparoscopic splenectomy is an effective procedure to treat benign hematologic disease, particularly ITP (idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura) that does not respond to medical treatment. The reported case was a 61 year-oId obese female who presented with ITP and bleeding peptic ulcers. Following successful laparoscopic splenectomy, there were no complications and platelets resumed normal. She returned home one week later.
