Abstract

Objective : To study the risk factors for obesity and statistical correlation between familial disease (DM, hypertension, coronary heart disease, hyperlipidemia) and obesity.

Method : 100 junior high students from Watsai Arreruk School were randomly selected and nutritionally assessed by weight for height. Questionnaires were used to evaluate the risk factors for obesity. Obtained data were analyzed by using multinomial logistic regression analysis and chi-square test.

Result : Risk factors for obesity were small family size (OR = 11.664, 2.048-66.44B), high fat intake (OR = 5.400, 1.712-17.038) and obesity of mother (OR = 5.049, 1.691 -1 5.077). There was no statistically correlation between familial disease (DM, hypertension, coronary heart disease, hyperlipidemia) and obesity

Suggestion : To prevent obesity in children, parents shouldn’t feed them with high fat food.
