Cervical Cancer Screening by Pap Smear in Ambulance at Dontum Hospital Nakhonpathom Province

Abstract

Cervical cancer is the cancer with the highest rate of incidence in Thai women. The mortality rate from cervical cancer has been increasing ; however, the rate of cervical cancer screening has been decreasing.

The purpose of this survey research were to study the rate of cervical cancer screening by Pap smear in ambulance, the level of satisfaction about cervical cancer screening services, perceived need of cervical cancer screening, health status and risk of cervical cancer. The sample were 149 women in Dontum district, Nakhon Pathom province. Data were collected by questionnaire and deep interview. Statistical analysis included percentage, mean, standard deviation.

The result of the study found that the rate of cervical cancer screening by Pap smear in ambulance was 70.3 percent. The sample expressed a high level of satisfaction about cervical cancer screening services, a moderate level perceived need of cervical cancer screening, a low level of health status and risk of cervical cancer.

It is recommended that health officer should have an active management plan. There should be a campaign promoting medical services for cervical cancer screening by Pap smear in ambulance that is provided in the local community, not causing embarrassment, quick and convenient.
