Abstract

Frozen shoulder or adhesive capsulitis is a common orthopaedic condition. Arthroscopic evaluation has established four stages of the disease. The treatments are prevention, gentle stretching exercises and closed manipulation. Closed manipulation under general anesthesia, when indicated, has good result. Closed manipulation does not rupture the subscapularis muscle and complications are rare. From 1994 to 2001, forty six patients, age 42 to 73 years old, were treated by closed manipulation with good results and without complications.
