Abstract

Cardiac wounds and hemopericardium constitute a grave emergency requiring prompt, informed handling if life is to be saved. The purpose of this paper is to present our experience with 10 patients with penetrating wounds of the heart treated in Ban-Pong hospital over a 12 year period extending from January, 1978 through January, 1990. All of these patients (6 with stab and 4 with bullet wound) were treated first with pericardiocentesis and then operated upon for cardiorrhaphy immediately. Two cases in this series have complications, retaining a bullet particle in one case and atrio-ventricular septal defect in one cases, both cases were treated conservatively by specialists. There is no dead case in this report.
