Abstract

Retropharyngeal abscess is one of deep neck infections that its incidence has decreased, since the advent of antibiotics. But with delayed treatment, they carry the potential for significant morbidity and mortality. This paper reports a case of retropharyngeal abscess from blunt neck trauma that is not the usual cause of this space abscess. lt was known that retropharyngeal infection often results more from penetrating injury to the neck either inside or outside sources. Knowledge of neck spaces and fastial relationship is important in understanding the presentation, treatment, and complications of deep neck infections. Related articles are revised.
