Childhood Inguinal Hernia in Nakhonpathom Hospital

Abstract

Inguinal herniotomy is the most commonly performed pediatric surgical operation. Two hundred and sixteen cases of Childhood inguinal hernias managed in the pediatric Surgical Unit, Nakhonpathom hospital from January 1994 to December 1996 are presented. There were 186 boys and 30 girls. 53% of hernias presented on the right side, 43% on the left and 4% were bilateral. Six ceases of incarcerated inguinal hernias occurred below the age of 1 year. This study conclude that childhood inguinal hernia especially in children in the age of 1 year must be operated in order to reduce the incarcerated inguinal hernia and other complications.
