Comparative-Effectiveness Study of Two Chemical Disinfectants in Nakhonpathom Hospital

Abstract

A prospective study of two chemical disinfectants was done at Nakhonpathom hospital  during June to September 1995. The main active ingredient of these two disinfectants are the same, “Glutaraldehyde" with different preparation and different prices. 400 ICU. suction tubes were used as samples. Microbial organism cultural technique was applied to the suction tubes before and after disinfection method. The comparative-effectiveness result showed there was no statistical different between these two disinfectants with 95% confidential level. The proper selection of the cheaper disinfectants could saved 50% of hospital budget with the same outcome.
