Antacid Interaction in Out-patient at Banpong Hospital

Abstract

Since the antacid was often prescribed and mostly with other drugs, thus the interactions was usually occured. This study was done during October 1 to December 31, 1995. 28,399 prescriptions were studied. There were 2,044 (7.19%) prescriptions were found co - prescribed. 1,075 (52.59%) prescriptions were found problem interaction. When we paired the antacids with other drugs, we got 4,982 pairs and found 1,388 (27.86%) pairs of problem interactions. The study showed that 737 (53.99%) problem prescriptions prescribed by staff, 388 (50.22%) by the Probation Scholars, 81 (62.67%) by the department of Opthalmology, 160 (60.83%) by the Department of Surgery etc. When we considered each problem interaction by clinical significance. Found only one (0.072%) pair was major clinical significance interaction, 109 (7.85%) pairs were moderate and 1,278 (92.07%) pairs were minor. And also found that  the most frequently antacid interaction was cimetidine.
