Treatment of the Injured Colon

Abstract

          The retrospective study of the treatment of the injured colon in Chaoprayayomraj hospital was reported between June 1989 and May 1994. Sixty four cases were reviewed. Primary repair, including suture repair and resection with anastomosis, was performed in 57 patients (89%), colostomy in only 7 patients (11%), and no exteriorized repair in any patients. There were 9 (14%) septic-related compIications; this included one intra-abdominal abscess, two fecal fistula, and six wound infection. Five patients died.
