Abstract

Seven cases of traumatic dislocation of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb were reported. There were 5 male and 2 female patients, aged from 1 1 to 52 year old. Six patients were dorsal dislocation and only one case of volar dislocation. Five out of 6 cases of dorsal dislocation were treated successfully by closed reduction, only one complex dorsal dislocation was operated via dorsal approach. One volar dislocation of MCP joint of thumb was treated by dorsal open reduction due to failure of closed reduction. All patients had full range of motion of metacarpophalangeal joint of thumb and no recurrent dislocation occured in the period of 6 months follow up.
