Road Traffic Accident in Samutsongkram Province

Abstract

This research attemped to study about the characteristic and injurious violence of road traffic accidents in Samutsongkram province from May 15 to June 30, 1992. According to the research, there were 194 road traffic accidents totally, 77.0 percent were motercycle accidents.

The majority happened at straight areas on asphalted roads with shoulders or sidewalks and two ways driving. They were found with nearly numbers in each day of the week, mostly happened in daytime especially between 09.01-11.30 am. and 04.31 -07.00 pm. There were 250 accidental patients have been treated in both public and private facilities, the ratio of males and females patients were 2.5 : 1, 71.2 percent were between 11-30 years old.

The most were labours and students who live in Samutsongkram province, 81.2 percent were slightly injured, 94.9 percent had never used personal safety instruments while driving or taking cars and motorcycles. Furthermore, most of them got more severe injury than the ones who usually used safety insturments.
