Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever at Photharam Hospital

Abstract

                 A retrospective study was done on 43 confirmed dengue hemorrhagic fever cases admitted to Photharam Hospital during January 1, 1991 to December 31, 1991.

                The highest incidence was in the age group of 5-9 years. The male to female ratio was 1.05 : 1, the incidence was high in July to October.

                The common signs and symptoms fever, vomiting, anorexia, hepatomegaly and positive tourniquet test were found in 100, 86.05, 83.72, 81.40 and 76.74 percent, of cases respectively. Shock occurred 65.12 percent. The treatment of shock was satisfactory with volume replacement as follows : 60.71 percent with only crystalline solution, 39.29 percent with colloidal solution in addition to crystalline solution. 2.33 percent of the patients needed blood transfusion.

                No patient died in this study.
