Abstract

A retrospective study of 1,913 head injured patients admitted in Ratchaburi Hospital between January 1,1989 to December 31,1991 was analysed. Thirty seven percent were referred patients. Mortality rate of referred patients (19.94%) was significantly (p<0.001) higher than that of local patients (8.32%). Late referral and dangerous referral were pitfalls in referral system. Delay in referral and improper prior management are attributable for the higher mortality.
