Perinatal Death in Damnernsaduak Hospital (October 1989-September 1992)

Abstract

          A 3 years retrospective study of perinatal death in Damnernsaduak Hospital during October 1,1989 to September 30, 1992 revealed 3,988 live births. There were 29 stillbirths and 17 early neonatal deaths. The perinatal mortality rate was 11.53 per 1,000 total live births. The main causes of death were due to unknown causes 30.43 percent, prematurity 28.26 percent and birth asphyxia 19.57 percent. The other causes were congenital anormaly and infection. To reduce perinatal mortality rate, should be cared for jointly by an obstetrician, a pediatrician, antenatal care team, labour room team, surgical team and neonatal unit team.
